Applying European Technology To Protecting Our Environment For years, Northern Europeans have insulated many of their buildings with a protective layer of soil and vegetation on the roof. As it has evolved, this technology, called a “Green Roof” system, has been refined to offer the ability to not only provide insulating capabilities but also to absorb and hold rain water and melting snow so that it does not run out into the street and flood lakes and ground water with contaminants. While currently used on a select number of commercial buildings in Minnesota, the “Green Roof” technology will see its first Minnesota multifamily residential application at the Edgewater. This means that water which would normally run off the roof and parking lots of the site will now be absorbed on the roof and protect the Lake in the process. Another cutting edge example of why the Edgewater is the most advanced condominium ever developed in Minneapolis.
